Review: Dinner by César Aira, Katherine Silver (Translation)

Was it a nightmare—the result of a bad case of indigestion—or did something truly scary happen after dinner in the Argentine town of Coronel Pringles?

Nothing is as it seems. I felt as if I stepped out of an episode of the Twilight Zone after reading Aira’s novella. Reminiscent of The War of the World sans radio. Off beat dinner party, reflecting on mutual acquaintances, perhaps a case of severe indigestion leads you down a tangled path of perception. The twist at the end ties it all together, but my oh my what an entertaining, funny and obscure evening. Don’t always believe what is presented to you.
