Bone of Contention
Pick a contentious issue about which you care deeply — it could be the same-sex marriage debate, or just a disagreement you’re having with a friend. Write a post defending the opposite position, and then reflect on what it was like to do that.

Timing of this prompt is unbelievable. Involved in a heated conversation yesterday, an acquaintance stated society is ‘too sensitive’ regarding racial slurs. He feels inappropriate name calling toughens a person up, the person should take it and not make such a big deal about it. Serious? To be honest I fail to see a way to defend this flawed way of thinking. I’m a multiracial woman and I am tough as steel, in no way did racial slurs or negative name calling aid in my toughening up. I cannot defend or support negative references in any way. I believe inappropriate words instigate hate as well as demonstrate ones ignorance and lack of knowledge. No way possible for me to defend this way of thinking and acting.
